Brown’s head brewer, Peter Martin has been brewing Brown’s award winning Ales & Lagers for the past fifteen years. Peter has recently been busy with our new bottling line, procuring hops during a worldwide shortage and out fitting an old factory to house our future production brewery on the Walloomsac River in Hoosick. Peter is responsible for production of over eleven different Brown’s Beers. From tank to tap, whether it’s Brown’s flagship Pale Ale or World Beer Cup Gold Winner Oatmeal Stout, Peter is a hands on Brewer. When not in the brewhouse, Peter is appreciating the outdoors fishing, chiseling a timberframe or spending time with his two daughters out and around his home in Hoosick, NY.
The Taproom at Brown’s Brewing Company features over a dozen dependably fresh ales and lagers on draught on any given day. Appropriately and simply named after their styles, our hand-crafted Standards are renowned for their freshness, character and taste.
To honor the water source from which all Brown's Ales & Lagers are made , the Tomhannock Reservoir. Brewed in the traditional style that originated in Pilsen, Czechoslovakia, our Pils is brewed using Saaz Hops (for bittering and finishing during lagering for aroma). Pilsner Malts, and a yeast strain that is used to ferment some of the finest Pilsners in the world combined with the Pilsen - like soft water of Troy's Tomhannock Reservoir. A portion of each pint goes to the Rensselaer Land Trust, to strengthen their watershed education programs.

Straw-colored, immensely refreshing, hazy and bursting with ester flavor our wheat beer has delighted our regulars for years and is true to its Bavarian heritage – even though we don’t typically serve it with breakfast like they do in Germany.

Robust, intense and smooth, Brown’s Porter is confident and distinct. With a moderate roasted malt aroma, mild caramel and subtle chocolate flavor and light hop finish, Brown’s Porter is exceptionally soothing. Less roasty and full bodied than a Stout and more complex and rich than a Brown Ale, Brown’s Porter is among the finest examples of this English style ale you’ll find anywhere.

This much coveted rare release features 100% freshly harvested New York State grown hops.
Robust and amber in color with a creamy head, Brown's Harvest I.P.A. is noted for its intense floral aroma and strong hop character that results from wet hop brewing. Wet hop brewing is necessary as the fresh hops picked no less than a day before the brew would spoil if not used immediately, unlike the the dried hops that we use each day.
Malts: Pale, 2 Row Brewer's and Caramel Hop: New York State grown Mt. Hood and Willamette.
Amber mahogany in color, our traditional Maerzen style lager gets its toasty and nutty flavor from generous amounts of Caramel Munich malt. Our Oktoberfest’s slight sweetness is nicely balanced by a note of subtle Saaz hops.

Brewed once a year from locally grown pie pumpkins harvested at Moses Farm in Eagle Bridge, NY, this sturdy ale truly satisfies all the senses. It pours a lovely mahogany-bronze color with just a hint of orange that is complemented by a rich, warm aroma not unlike fresh baked pumpkin pie. Munich malt provides the perfect balance to the sweet pumpkin and spice flavors, giving it rich malty-sweet flavor that finishes dry and clean.

Munich malts and beech wood unite to create our Rauchbier, a traditionally German Marzen-style lager that is unique in its orange-brown color and forward, smoky flavor. Peter Martin smokes the malted grain for two days over wet beech wood that originates at Garry and Kelly Brown’s farm, a process that gives the beer a smooth and mild smoky flavor while maintaining a slight sweetness, medium body, and clean finish.

A traditional style beer originating from southern Germany. Our Dunkelweizen is an unfiltered wheat beer with a golden bronze color and medium body. The Weihenstephen Weizen ale yeast used provides this Dunkelweizen both a complex wheat beer sharpness and luscious, malty sweetness. It's clove-tinged fruitiness along with a hint of chocolate malt renders this a superb beer.
Malts: Wheat, Pilsen, Bonlander Munich, Caramel, Chocolate & Carapils Hops: German Select 5.0% a.b.v.
Brown’s Dunder & Blixem Strong Ale is a wonderfully full and festive winter warmer brewed just for the holiday season. Pouring mahogany-red, Dunder & Blixem is rich and subtly roasty with notes of toffee, raisin and holiday spice with a delightful piney and herbal hop balance.
Brewed in honor of Clement Clarke Moore’s “A Visit From St. Nicholas” which was first published in the Troy, NY Sentinel on December 23, 1823. More popularly known as “Twas the Night Before Christmas” the tale originally featured reindeer “Dunder” and “Blixem” (Dutch for Thunder and Lightening) before later tellings of the fable spoke of Donner and Blitzen.

We craft our ESB – or Extra Special Bitter – to be a deliciously sturdy ale that’s dead-on true to its English heritage. Full-bodied, with a classic toasty malt palate throughout, our ESB finishes fresh and hoppy. Carbonated lightly, and poured via a slow pour tap, Brown’s ESB is an outstanding example of one of Britain ’s finest gifts to civilization.

An annual seasonal for us every March. The unmalted roasted barley used in our Dry Irish Stout presents a pronounced malt character while maintaining a drinkable light body and a soothing smooth and creamy texture. Rich in color, this beer pours deep dark brown to nearly black with a slight carbonation and flavor that finishes clean and dry.

Brown’s Cream Ale is light bodied and smooth with the refreshing subtle zip of a Cascade hop and slightly sweet finish. Brown’s Cream Ale gets it’s “creamy” profile from colder fermentation temperatures, flaked maize in the mash bill and a final Krauesening with Pilsner.
Malts: Two Row Brewers Barley & Flaked Maize Hops: Cascade 5.25% a.b.v.
Our tribute to the German Schwarzbier (Black Beer) style. Very dark brown in color with underlying roasted malt and chocolate notes with a subtle hop character. Despite its dark appearance, Brown’s Black Lager is deceptively very clean, light bodied and easy drinking.
Malts: Pilsen, Bonlander Munich, Munich 20L, Munich 60L, Black Barley & Chocolate Hops: Mt. Hood & Saaz 5.0% a.b.v.
Brown's English Pale is not simply the sum of its ingredients. Rather than being simply malt or hop-forward, it offers a delicate balance of fruity yeast, bready and toffee-like malt sweetness, earthy and floral hop flavor, all rounded out by a subtle "mineral-ly" water base. As a Pale Ale, the hops play a large role, and thus it is both present in the bitterness (Fuggle hops), as well as in the flavor and aroma through dry hopping. Medium bodied and garnet in color, this beer pairs very well with fish and chips, and fruity deserts.
Malts: Two Row Pale & Caramel Hops: Fuggle 5.25% a.b.v.
